Pumpkin Beers 2012
September 26th, 2012Each year I grow more and more fond of these seasonal pumpkin beers. I don’t know about you but, to me, pouring a glass of delicious liquid pumpkin pie is hard to beat. Let’s talk about 5 of these lovelies, in order of tasty pumpkin rating.
Terrapin Pumpkinfest

Georgia. Combining the Octoberfest and pumpkin ale styles, this beer takes my top spot this Fall. Terrapin is putting out some very nice beers, and this one is no exception. A good hit of pumpkin aroma with a lager and spice finish. Highly recommended to people who like to drink beer.
New Holland Ichabod Ale

Michigan. This is my favorite from last year, and still holds up quite nicely. A strong showing of pumpkin aroma and spice, housed in a nice, mellow ale. Kinda sweet.
Weyerbacher Imperial Pumpkin Ale

Pennsylvania. This is the booziest of the bunch, but it comes together nicely. Another one that packs a good wallop of pumpkin and spices, and finishes with a strong ale taste. It’ll get ya drunk!
Dogfish Head Punkin Ale

Delaware. Dogfish has a knack for making a pumpkin beer that a lot of people love. I like it, but somehow the brew doesn’t seem as drinkable to me as some of the others, maybe a bit bitter. This one is more like a traditional ale and less like pumpkin pie. Still good, though.
Shipyard Pumpkinhead

Maine. I actually like this beer a lot, but I can’t give it a high pumpkin rating for one reason: it doesn’t smell or taste like pumpkin. It has the spice though, and some decent flavor. Loses another pumpkin due to a watery feel.

Alright, I promised not to look back at your results…I was right, Shipyard was at the bottom of my scale too!
I love the terrapin! As I mentione don your blog, the Southern Tier Pumpking is now my favorite.
Aww I wish I lived in America!! I’m so ridiculously excited about Halloween and these beers would be awesome to have at the Halloween party. I’m going to ask a bottle shop if they’re getting them in!
There are a lot of things I think we don’t do right in America, but craft beer is one thing we do do right. (We also make some of the worst piss-water out there.)
